today's visitors

first nigella arrived and stayed to play while eva and rory went to the markets. in view of her recent record here - eating cat pills, chewing snail pellets, getting grass seed in eye, and the subsequent visits to vets, we decided not to let her outside so she sat by the door and begged to be allowed to explore.

when we didn't agree to her request she took matters into her own hands and made a run for it when adrian opened the door. luckily we got her back in before her parents returned with the lunch.

after lunch adrian designed the menu/place card for the wedding while we searched for a suitable poem for the ceremony. found a few but nothing really good. eva will just have to write one. then jan arrived and it was time for them to go in to the gallery to take down the paintings and patch up the walls. it only took an hour or so and then all the artists came here for dinner which i'd knocked up while they were working. made pasta with a tomato sauce using fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden and fruit salad. it was quite tasty and a fun evening.

later on i went out and found our last visitor for the day. its web is spectacular - it puts it up every night and removes it in the morning - very tidy!

Wedding Bliss
Translation by Franklin D. Lewis "Rumi -- Past and Present, East and West" Oneworld Publications, Oxford, 2000

In companionship and happiness
may you be like milk and honey
in union and fidelity,
just like sugar and halva.
May the blessings of those who toast
and the one who pours the wine
anoint the ones who said Amen and
the one who said the prayer.

i quoit loik this poem for a wedding. that pic of nige's head on eva's body is v. funny - looks like nige has morphed into a dog-girl.
